Senior Front-end Developer REMOTEPERMANENT

Job Description

Kind are a strategic digital agency that helps socially-minded businesses to get the most out of their digital presence, and hopefully make the world a little better at the same time.

We're on the look out for a Senior Front-end Developer to join us in building beautiful websites and web applications.

Closing date: July 12th 2019

(Part-time and remote options available for the right candidate).

What you'll be doing

You’ll be working on a variety of digital projects for our growing, socially-responsible client base, as well as on internal projects.

That includes:

  • Working closely with our design team to create beautiful, considered user experiences that work across devices
  • Writing and maintaining standards-based HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Building and maintaining websites in Craft CMS, in particular template integration with Twig
  • Making sure we stick to performance, accessibility and code quality standards and processes
  • Keeping your eyes and ears open for ways we can refine those same standards and processes
  • Taking part in regular code review with your peers
  • Participating in daily “stand-up” production meetings and monthly company strategic reviews

Our front-end stack

Right now most of our projects are built using some combination of:

  • Vue.js
  • ES6/7 / Next + Babel + Webpack
  • Postcss
  • Jest + ESLint

On the back end we primarily use Craft CMS, plus a mixture of GraphQL and REST APIs.

We’re always open to trying new and interesting technologies.

About you

We're looking for someone self-sufficient who takes pride in their work and is always keen to improve it.

You will be an expert in:

  • Standards-based HTML + CSS
  • CSS preprocessors
  • Atomic, modular front-end development
  • Accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0) and APIs (WAI-ARIA)
  • Git (or another modern DVCS like Mercurial)
  • Command line build tools
  • Web performance and front-end optimisation

In our dreams, you might also have:

  • a decent level of JavaScript
  • a working knowledge of design and UX principles
  • experience working with design systems / pattern libraries
  • at least a basic level of PHP literacy and familiarity with LAMP / LEMP stacks
  • Craft CMS experience (or another CMS that uses Twig)
  • knowledge of modern JavaScript (ES2015/2016)
  • any experience working with third party APIs
  • any experience with Object Oriented PHP (particularly with Yii, Symfony or Laravel)
  • contributed to an Open Source project
  • experience with client side testing frameworks and CI (we use Buddy)

We’re a small team, so we’re also looking for someone who is willing and able to muck in with stuff like QA when required.

What we offer

We treat our employees like the skilled grown-ups that they are. Here’s what we offer in return for your time and attention.

  • A fair and decent salary based on your level of experience
  • Sensible, flexible, family-friendly working hours, including opportunities for home working
  • Unlimited holiday allowance
  • Pension scheme
  • A relaxed & supportive working environment based on trust and mutual respect
  • Rewarding, challenging work for socially-responsible clients that value our contributions
  • A brand new Mac / linux machine of your choice, plus all the software you need to do your best work, and any other tools you need to work effectively
  • Centrally located Nottingham office / ability to work remotely
  • Transparency about the state of our business. Nobody likes secrets.
  • A professional development plan, including:
    • Your own conference and professional development budget
    • 10% time (one day a fortnight) to spend as you choose on your professional development, contributing to open source projects and/or staying on top of industry best practice
    • Regular reviews
  • We’ll take you out for lunch occasionally
  • We all go out for drinks (soft or hard) quite regularly too

While this is a full-time, permanent role, based in our central Nottingham office, we are open to reduce hours, remote or part-remote working for the right candidate.

You may still need to be able to travel occasionally to our Nottingham office and to our UK-based clients.

If you have any special requirements with travel, we will work with you to take care of these.
