Web Developer (12 Month/Remote) – Contingent II Contractual REMOTECONTRACT

Job Description

The University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science (UMCES) invites applications for a one-year Contingent II Contractual Web Developer position. The successful candidate will work with an established and dynamic team in partnership with Chesapeake Bay Program. The Chesapeake Bay Program maintains several websites as a primary method of informing citizens and stakeholders about Chesapeake Bay protection and restoration efforts.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Director of Web Development as part of the Web Development Team. Typical areas of responsibility for this position will include:

  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of content management systems (Craft CMS and ExpressionEngine) for the Chesapeake Bay Program partnership websites.
  • Assist with programming for websites and web-based applications using the languages, tools and software including, but not limited to HTML 5, PHP, CSS (including Grid), SASS, React, Vue, and Javascript.
  • Assist in the management, tracking and resolution of support requests.
  • Assist in maintaining version controlled code and in the deployment process.
  • Assist in the development of websites optimized for mobile devices using responsive web design.
  • Assist in the design, creation, population, and maintenance of backend databases to support Chesapeake Bay Program websites and mobile applications including but not limited to MySQL.
  • Participate in conducting user experience research and usability evaluations.

Candidates should have a bachelor’s degree and between 0-5 years of experience. A background in web development, design, user experience and excellent communication skills are desired.

This position may be filled as a full-time or part-time contractual position, and subsidized health benefits eligibility will be determined by the number of hours worked. The funding for this position is from a federal grant.
