About

Howdy 👋 I'm Jalen, a designer and web developer who spends most days building things with Craft CMS, and I've been at it long enough to have a lot of opinions about how a Craft project should be put together (fwiw, most of them are written down and open source). Day to day that means designing and building full sites and client portals end to end - the Twig templates and Tailwind CSS frontend, the Vue bits where a page actually needs to be an app, the custom modules and integrations with whatever third-party systems a client is already living in, and the Laravel Forge and Docker setup that gets it all deployed and keeps it running. I also maintain a shelf of Craft plugins (Preparse, Metronome, Altcha, Readtime, Lockout, etc.), a set of Spark boilerplates and tooling for spinning up new Craft projects fast, and Twig Toolbox, a VS Code extension with a real Twig 3 language server that knows your Craft project's actual section and field handles.

What I'm probably best at is the unglamorous stuff between "the design is approved" and "the site is live and the editors are happy" - so content modeling that makes sense to the people typing into it, control panel experiences that don't need a training manual, and templates and code that the next developer can pick up without a tour. I care a lot about workflows (maybe too much), so a clunky, repetitive process is the kind of thing I'll happily disappear for an afternoon to fix, and every plugin and tool above came out of exactly that itch. If you've got a Craft project that needs building, rescuing, or just a tad more polish, I'd love to hear about it - go ahead and reach out and let's talk shop!

Gold Dealer Reviews

A review site for precious-metals dealers that I rebuilt from an aging Joomla install onto Craft CMS 5, where customers rate and review a Dealer, the Dealer can claim its profile and post one public Reply per Review, and a paid Gold plan (billed through a custom Stripe module) unlocks those Reply rights along with review alerts. Reviews, votes, and replies run on Verbb Comments with a good bit of custom module work on top, and the frontend is Twig and Tailwind CSS with a light Vue layer for the interactive bits (voting, star ratings, the homepage carousel, etc.), so every review page stays fully server-rendered for search engines. It's a nice example of the kind of project I enjoy most - a real business with real users, where the content model and the dealer-facing tools have to make sense to people who aren't developers.

Alpine Gold Ogden

A site for a precious-metals dealer in Utah that a friend of mine designed and I built out on Craft CMS, taking his Figma file and turning it into a set of clean Twig templates and a content model the client can actually manage on their own. The design leaned hard on the details, so the fun part was all the little CSS and design "sprinkles" that make it feel like more than a brochure - a gold shimmer that follows your cursor across the cards, scroll-driven parallax on the coin backgrounds, buttons that flip over like a 3D gold coin when you hover them, an animated marquee, a submit button whose icon morphs through the loading and success states, and fluid type and spacing built on Tailwind CSS so nothing needs a breakpoint to look right. It's a good example of what I enjoy most about design-to-code work: honoring somebody else's design down to the pixel while quietly making sure the whole thing is fast, accessible, and easy for the client to update.
